The Beeb’s redesign has attracted some attention here a bit already. Inspite of the jibes for the glitches at launch, I think we all actually like it. I personally really like the extra whitespace that the body text has been given. I think it makes it more readble.
However, I think they’ve made a mistake with that clock on the main site banner. Do we really need a clock on a web page these days? We’ve all got widgets or good old fashioned task bars with clocks on them on our pooters. But for me the sucker punch was delivered when I looked at the site on a lowish spec box on which I’ve installed Flashblock. On the beeb site, Flashblock blocks the flash (duh) with its shiny F blob thing and this actually breaks the masthead forcing it to stretch and look rubbish.
I know I’m not alone in using Flashblock, especially since Firefox these days is sluggish as anything (I really hope they fix that soon), so lots of people must be seeing what I’m seeing. And wondering what time it is.

About Firefox being sluggish, have you tried the latest Firefox 3 Beta 5 ?

IMO it feels faster, the UI is definitely less intrusive, but I’ve found sometimes CSS rendering difference with Firefox 2.
Is the downloads box still as useful as a chocolate teapot in comparison to the Beta 3 release?
