Internal information resource for BT sales staff

BT Sales Zone

Sales Zone is an intranet portal used by over 4,000 BT Business advisors, partners and customer service teams. This massive content managed site tailors the information according to the profile and type of use. With a team of publishers at BT changing and amending the content on an hourly basis, the site has to robust, flexible and very dynamic. Its also central hub that links out seamlessly to other external sales applications that are vital to the different users. Since its launch in April 2009, we've been working with the BT team to develop and continually improve Sales Zone and its numerous applications.

BT Sales Zone
The team at White October took time to understand the complex and varied needs of the different user groups in BT Business, which was essential for the success of Sales Zone. Their focused project management, flexible approach to changing priorities and a real commitment to deliver ensured that the site was launched according to the tight timescales and on budget. We are delighted with the site and continue to work with then to continually improve and roll-out new innovations to our users. Lisa Shattock, Senior Marketing Manager - BT Business

Development process

The Agile development process that we used to build this site meant that we were able to turn it around within ambitious timescales.  The project was run in sprints developing a small number of "user stories" each week, and allowing the BT team to shape the development of the project according to their changing priorities.

User profiling

With advisors from across the BT business and beyond using the system, its success rests on its ability to deliver relevant information to its users.  The user profiling that we have put in place ensures that the content can be adapted down to the level of individual paragraphs to tailor it to its audience.

Design

We teamed up with our favourite web design agency, Hutchhouse to work on this project, and a large part of the system's success can be attributed to their clean designs and intimate understanding of how users interact with websites.
